Mark Clem
(Engineer, Producer)

With over 12 years of recording experience and a lifetime in the arts, Mark has been privileged to work with many artists in the vibrant Northwest music scene. His unique approach to creating music combined with his exploration of all musical genres help him create a studio space that supports, inspires and challenges artists to be their best.

From exploring Indie Pop, Metal and Reggae in high school, to Industrial, Goth and Indie Rock during college, to Minimalism, Jazz, Hip Hop, Electronica (House, Techno, IDM, Drum & Bass), and Post Rock in recent years, Mark’s perpetually evolving knowledgebase of all things music continues to grow. It is with this lexicon of understanding that he approaches the challenge of relating to the many styles and personalities he finds himself working with from day to day. This knowledge combined with his patience, creativity, attention to detail and technical understanding of the recording process give his clients the assurance they need to focus on being as creative as they can be. His high standards of excellence guarantee a product that his client(s) will be more than satisfied with.

Mark’s musical career began in Marshfield, Wisconsin where at the age of 9 he began studying guitar and piano. After mastering the gradeschool classics Purple People Eater, Scarborough Fair and The Entertainer, Mark found himself drawn to a more visual artistic style. Moving to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend Colorado State University, he received a BA in Photography and Fiber Art. Shortly after college, he headed west to Seattle for a change of scenery. Here he nutrured his love for riding waves, sliding on snow and climbing mountains, but it was the purchase of one electric guitar and classic Fender amp that returned his focus to music, and he hasn’t looked back.

The last few years have found Mark writing and performing (bass, guitar, keyboards, turntables) in a number of local bands including The Figure of Eight, Blanco y Negro, the Haze Brothers and Chimpo. Late in 2003 a completely remodeled Soul Kitchen Studios opened its doors just north of Seattle. Since that time artists like Marvin Glover (www.marvinglover.com), Elizabeth Carpenter (www.blueweed.com) and Everstone (www.everstone.org) are just a few of those who have sought out Mark’s experience and expertise.
